Daniel Ricciardo’s F1 days are numbered at the moment, as he is yet to sign a deal for the 2023 season of the sport, but in the Australian’s opinion, he believes that, even if an offer had come for him from the Haas F1 team, he would have politely declined it.

According to Daniel Ricciardo, a year on the sidelines is a more preferable option for him than to drop down on the grid with the Haas F1 team.

After spending quite a decent number of years in the sport, the 33-year-old is looking all set to sit a year out after its current team, McLaren decided to cut short his contract by a year.

Ricciardo was axed in order to make space for the young Oscar Piastri, who has previously won the F3 and F2 Championships in consecutive years. Moreover, the 21-year-old’s deal at McLaren created huge noise, as he ditched Alpine, to get on the books of the papaya-colored outfit.

Daniel Ricciardo has a huge fanbase who are extremely pissed about the prospect of not seeing their favorite driver in the sport next year, but the Australian, on the other hand, feels that it would be best for him to take a 1-year sabbatical from the sport.

The Haas F1 Team was rumored to have their eyes on Ricciardo earlier in the season, as they indicated that they would love to have his services on board for next year, but Ricciardo believes it would not have been ideal for him to drop down on the grid.

While stressing about the prospect he added, “The hunger is really still there [to keep racing in F1], but I want to be swamped by it again. If I am active in Formula 1 next year and I experience a lesser year for whatever reason, then for my feeling it is really all done with me in this sport. That instinctively involves greater risk than a year on the sidelines.”

Daniel Ricciardo has pretty much ended the debate of being on the grid for 2023 and is going to spend a year out of the sport. Considering how the young talent is making its way into F1 every year, would the former eight-time Grand Prix be able to land a seat in 2024?
