Lewis Hamilton is all set to start from P5 during the Dutch Grand Prix, and after his qualifying exploits, has indicated that the tussle with Red Bull brought back memories of last year.
Mercedes has shown strong pace during the first two days in Zandvoort and Lewis Hamilton and George Russell are looking to carry forward their performances into tomorrow’s all-important Grand Prix.
Hamilton while shedding light on his qualifying performance said, “I mean I was fighting for it. It was really such a positive feeling to come from a difficult weekend, a difficult result.“
“The car has completely transformed this weekend just because of the different type of track. To be fighting with only a tenth between us and a Red Bull, it felt very reminiscent of times of last year.”
In Spa, the Silver Arrows were nowhere near the mighty Red Bull team, but with a change of circuit, their fortunes have also changed for the better. Hamilton and George were looking all set to end their quali outing well into the top 5, but a late Sergio Perez crash meant that the duo was not able to finish their final Q3 run.
Moreover, the former 7-time World Champion has indicated that had he been given the opportunity of finishing his final run, he could have been alongside Max Verstappen on the front row.
Lewis Hamilton was all set to land his W13 on the front row in Zandvoort
Ever since landing in Zandvoort, the Mercedes team has been on the money in terms of extracting performance from the car, and Hamilton who was in prime form during qualifying, while discussing a potential front row for the Brackley-based team said, “I was really hoping that maybe I could make that little difference and maybe get ahead. In the end, I was up, but not enough to be pole, probably not, but definitely fighting for the front row.“
“Either way, we’re close and I hope we can fight these guys tomorrow in the race. It’s a difficult race to overtake, as you’ve seen in the past, but we’ve got nothing to lose, we’ve got to give everything tomorrow”.
Lewis Hamilton has put out a strong warning to everyone who is starting ahead of Mercedes, and further has stressed that they have got nothing to lose and are gonna try everything in their power to get a solid result in Zandvoort.
Lewis Hamilton has been on the podium several times this season, and considering that overtaking has always been a hassle at Zandvoort, the Brit at the least would be eyeing another podium finish.
