“It has been a huge privilege to lead Williams Racing,” Jost Capito releases his statement after announcing departure from Williams
Jost Capito
All this while, the entire Formula 1 community had been focused on the drama at Scuderia Ferrari which ensued following Mattia Binotto’s announcement that he would be stepping down from his role as the Italian outfit’s Team Principal. But at the same time, the Williams F1 racing team has undergone a massive upheaval as their Team Principal Jost Capito has announced his departure from the British outfit, and he will be joined on the way out by Williams’ Technical Director FX Demaison, who is also set to exit the squad.
The Williams F1 team has been subject to multiple changes in these last few years as their ownership went from the hands of the legendary racing family of Frank Williams to the American investment firm Dorilton Capital in 2020. At that time, Jost Capito was requested to join the operation of leading Williams and the German had come out of retirement to do so. But now, Capito has decided to walk away from the responsibilities, pending any confirmation as to who will replace him as Williams’ Team Principal.
Jost Capito has played crucial and monumental role in rebuilding the entire Williams F1 team after their abysmal results since 2018. He called in FX Demaison to join the team as their Technical Director as the duo had previous experience of working at Volkswagen. And now, Demaison will join Capito as both of them will not continue with Williams in the upcoming season, opening up two posts at the British team that will be up for grabs.
Jost Capito says he is grateful to have laid the foundation for the turnaround of the Williams F1 team
Under Jost Capito’s leadership, Williams did see quick growth in their results as the 2021 season ended with Williams leaving the dreaded 10th place in the Constructors’ Championship that they had held for the previous two years, and settling for the 8th place. But in 2022, the results showed a dip once again as Williams came tenth and last in the standings.

Sensing that a change is needed, Jost Capito confirmed he will be leaving the team. He said, “It has been a huge privilege to lead Williams Racing for the last two seasons and to lay the foundations for the turnaround of this great team. I look forward to watching the team as it continues on its path to future success.”
Now that the post for the Team Principal of Williams is up for grabs, it is going to be interesting to see whom the fans favor for the role. With a new recruit, Logan Sargeant, all set to join the team for the upcoming 2023 season, as well as a new Team Principal and a Technical Director, fans look forward to seeing a completely new face of Williams next year.
