“It has been a pleasure and honor,” Michael Masi responds after formally parting ways with the FIA

Michael Masi
Michael Masi was unfortunately the talking point after the title decider in Abu Dhabi last year. A race which was supposed to be headlined by Max Verstappen or Lewis Hamilton didn’t exactly go to plan. Both the championship rivals were tied on points going into the last race of the season, something the F1 fans had not seen for a while now.
Max Verstappen started from pole with Lewis Hamilton alongside him on the front row. But, the Dutchman didn’t get off to the best of the starts as he conceded the lead to Lewis going into the first corner. The seven time world had a commanding before Nicholas Latifi crashed into the wall with a few laps to go. This left Michael Masi with a huge decision to make.
Michael Masi, at first, decided that the lapped cars won’t be allowed to overtake the safety car but later on changed his mind. This led to a huge controversy with Michael departing from his role as race director. But, it was also confirmed that he would stay with the organization and his role will be decided in the upcoming months. But now, he has decided to formally part ways with FIA.

Michael Masi reacts to his decision of formally leaving the FIA

Responding to his FIA departure, Michael Masi said that it was pleasure to work within the sport. He further said, “It has been a pleasure and honour representing the FIA as the single-seater sporting director and FIA Formula 1 race director and safety delegate since Charlie’s unexpected and tragic passing in Melbourne 2019.”
“I am proud to have worked in partnership for many years with the various FIA member clubs, Formula 1 Group, the competitors, promoters and circuit operators and my colleagues and team internally at the FIA.”
“I will always treasure these lifelong relationships and friendships that I have developed throughout my journey to date.”
Michael Masi is pretty unlucky to be remembered by one wrong call in a highly intense situation despite all his good work for the sport. We all wish him a wonderful life in the future.
