George Russell had a weekend to forget at the Marina Bay Circuit, where after starting his race from the pitlane, the young Brit was not able to make much of an impact.

During the race, Russell collided with Mick Schumacher’s VF-22 after which he was stuck behind the German and was only able to muster a P14 finish.

The most eye-catching moment of the 23-year-old’s exploits came when he made the early decision to switch to slick tires. What made the decision surprising, was the fact that none of the other drivers before Russell, decided to go for slicks on a wet Marina Bay Circuit.

Moreover, the moment George Russell came out of the pits, it was easily noticeable that it was the wrong decision. He struggled to find any grip on the circuit and was seen sliding all across the track. His early experience on slicks was so bad that he fell almost a minute behind the lead car.

George Russell after having an outing to forget at the Marina Bay Circuit has talked about how the experience was for him out on track, and while giving specific details said, “I thought, ‘screw it, we have to try something. I trusted the team, they trusted me, and they thought it was time to go to slicks. Obviously, it was totally the wrong decision at that moment.

He further adds, “In situations like this, you have to be audacious. On a track like this without DRS, the cars are nearly impossible to overtake. You have to try something.”

The Brit has defended his decision-making by indicating that, in situations like the recent one at the Marina Bay Circuit, one has to act brave in order to nake something out of the situation.
