“It’s not up to me to judge”: Christian Horner shuts down comparison with Toto Wolff

One thing that is pretty safe to say is that Mercedes Team Boss Toto Wolff and Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner don’t really share the most friendliest of relationships. In fact, the 2021 title showdown between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton shone a lot of light on the impact and intervention that the team principals make on the teams and therefore how much they themselves get involved in the battle against each other.

Christian Horner recently drew out the equation of the relationship that he shares with his compatriot at Mercedes, Toto Wolff. Their competition and political clash was described by Christian Horner in a recent interview with Sky Sports UK.

The complete gist of the interview was that Horner feels that Toto Wolff is very easy to provoke. Even though these were not the exact terms used, Horner said, “It’s easy to pull his chain“, in terms of Toto Wolff. Horner said,  “I have nothing personal against him and he has done a phenomenal job at Mercedes. He arrived in F1 following a very different path from mine, more on the financial side. I find it easy to hit the mark with him, we saw it in 2021.

As mentioned before, the relationship between the two of them isn’t really smooth at all. Toto Wolff once described Christian Horner as an inflated ball and a very good actor in front of the screen. On the other hand Christian Horner himself doesn’t miss an opportunity to point out the influence of Mercedes’ lobbying with the FiA regarding the regulations.

When you see people banging headphones on the ground or having other reactions of this type it means that you have hit the mark.“, added Horner. “For the first time he found himself involved in such an intense struggle and it is interesting to note how people react in these situations.”

The Red Bull team boss also made it clear however, that he definitely does not see himself as the number one over anyone else, “It’s not up to me to judge, what is certain is that I don’t have to worry about how my figure is seen or painted on the outside. What I have to do is do the best possible job for all the people I represent.”

Even though Mercedes have been on the backfoot this season, they are slowly starting to make a comeback. We all hope that they do indeed make a strong comeback, because if there’s one thing that is more interesting than wheel to wheel racing, it’s Wolff versus Horner.
