Max Verstappen has once again done what he has made a habit of doing this season, and at the end of the Japanese GP qualifying, has managed to put his RB18 in P1 for tomorrow’s Grand Prix.
Max Verstappen was on the money straight away from the start of qualifying, and on the back of fearless driving, has booked the top slot for himself.
However, in Q3, it was extremely tight at the end between Max and Charles Leclerc. The Monegasque ended his exploits in P2, but could have been on pole, had he done a slightly faster lap.
Max Verstappen during his final run, did a time of 1:29:304 that took him to the provisional pole, and Charles Leclerc who was doing everything in his power to get the jump on his rival, missed out on the top spot by an extremely tight margin of +0.010 seconds.

Considering the permutations leading into the Japanese GP, P1 is the best that Max could have asked for and while discussing his quali outing, he said, “It was pretty incredible to drive around here especially when you are low fuel these cars come alive in the last sector. Super happy to be on pole, but happy to be back here. I lost a part of the duct on the final lap, so maybe that is why I couldn’t improve.”

While the prolific Dutchman has managed to secure P1 for the Japanese GP, his quali outing was not all smooth sailing, there was an incident during quali where Max was weaving in order to get heat into his car’s tires and Lando Norris came from behind and both had to take invasive actions to avoid each other. Lando even went onto the grass.
Max knows that it was a close call and while dwelling over it, said, “I was just driving quite slow and I wanted to accelerate but then I had a big moment and then Lando was trying to pass me at the same time and he had to avoid me. Luckily nothing happened.”
He further adds, “It will be interesting first of all to see the weather. Some say it’s going to be dry and others say it’s going to be raining at some point during the race. I am quite confident that we have a good car.”

Max Verstappen, despite the uncertainty regarding the track condition for tomorrow’s race, is confident in his team and the machinery that he has got underneath him, and considering, he has a chance to secure the 2022 F1 title at Suzuka, he is going to be all charged up for tomorrow’s race.
