“It’s very negligible,” Christian Horner sheds light on Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez’ floor designs at Monza

Christian Horner, the Red Bull Team Principal, after Friday’s Practice at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza has given a brief insight into the outing of the team and talked about the different floor designs that Max and Sergio were running.

Max Verstappen ended his Friday outing with a time good enough for P2 on the timing sheets whereas, on the other hand, Sergio Perez was only able to manage P6 which is good, considering he was languishing in P14 at the end of the FP1 session.

Horner at the end of both sessions was asked to give a review of the Milton-Keynes-based team’s exploits and while discussing the difference between the floor design of its driver’s car said, “It’s very negligible. We predict that it is less than a tenth of a second difference.”

The Brit has stressed that the different floors that Max and Sergio were running were down to the penalties that the team has to take into account going ahead into the season and has specifically mentioned that, despite the different floors, there was negligible difference in the performance of both its cars.

Max Verstappen has come to Monza high on confidence after securing the win at Zandvoort, but the penalties have again caught up with the Dutchman and now he is set to get a five-place grid drop for the Italian Grand Prix.

The 24-year-old has shown supreme form this year and is chasing after the 13 Grand Prix wins record that is currently held jointly by Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel.

However, with a grid drop coming the way of Verstappen, things can get quite tricky for him, especially considering that the Ferrari outfit has looked strong on Friday.

Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have looked sharp ahead of their home Grand Prix and they at the least would be looking for a 1-2 finish for the Maranello-based team.

If this was not enough of a concern, historically it has proven difficult to overtake at the Temple of Speed, and with Max Verstappen’s having a 5-place penalty, there are chances that Max might have to settle for a bit less than what he has made a habit of achieving this year.
