Lewis Hamilton is one of the most successful drivers in the history of Formula 1. The Briton achieved incredible success with Mercedes over the years and won seven world titles. However, the 38-year-old has failed to win in the sport since the start of the ground-effect era in 2022. Former F1 world champion Jackie Stewart reckoned that Hamilton doesn’t have the hunger to win.
Stewart recalled that Lewis Hamilton‘s championship-winning years with Mercedes came at a time when the Silver Arrows had virtually no competition. As such, the 38-year-old only faced the challenge of beating his teammate to win the title. Hamilton lost the 2016 championship to Nico Rosberg. However, Jackie Stewart insisted that Rosberg was not on the level of all-time greats.
Moreover, the three-time world champion mentioned that Nico Rosberg was a driver after winning his maiden F1 title. However, Stewart does not see that hunger in Hamilton anymore, with the seven-time world champion struggling to reclaim his spot at the front of the grid.
Jackie Stewart said, as reported by Daily Mail, “Rosberg was hungry and had the absolute will to become world champion. Lewis no longer has that hunger. Because of that – and because the car is no longer quite as powerful – he has serious problems.”

Jackie Stewart dismisses Lewis Hamilton’s 8th title hopes
Lewis Hamilton lost the 2021 F1 world championship to Max Verstappen after a controversial season finale in Abu Dhabi. The 38-year-old has since been determined to win a record-breaking eighth title with Mercedes. Stewart believed this would depend on the Silver Arrows if the team could provide Hamilton with the right car. However, the three-time champion was convinced that the Briton might not win another world title in F1.
Stewart explained, “‘That (eighth title) also depends on Mercedes. It’s not impossible, but I still don’t think he’ll be able to do it.” Hamilton has finally signed a contract extension with the Silver Arrows. This renewal will see the seven-time champion continue racing for Mercedes till at least 2025, providing the Briton two more seasons to claim another championship.
Thus, Jackie Stewart has claimed that Lewis Hamilton does not have the hunger to win in F1 again. The 84-year-old was convinced that the Mercedes driver had some major issues. Despite Hamilton’s new contract for the next two seasons at Brackley, Stewart believes the 38-year-old will not win an eighth world championship.
