Charles Leclerc has always been Ferrari’s go-to man to help them regain their glory in the sport. Ever since the Scuderia signed the Monegasque driver back in 2019, he has gone on to put forth some incredible performances for them. One of the highlights is the 2019 Italian Grand Prix, where Leclerc won in front of the Tifosi in Monza. However, recent years haven’t been very kind to the Ferrari driver.
Charles Leclerc currently lies in 6th place in the driver’s standings this year. Carlos Sainz on the other hand, is ahead of him. When it came to Ferrari’s home race this year, Charles was bested by teammate Carlos Sainz who went on to take pole position and eventually ended up taking the final spot on the podium. In a duel between the two Ferrari drivers, Sainz eventually bested the Monegasque driver. Ex-F1 world champion Jacques Villeneuve has shared his thoughts on the situation at hand.
Speaking to PlanetF1.com here is what he had to say. “Charles Leclerc is not driving with confidence, and he’s making too many mistakes. That’s not helping the team moving forward. But Carlos Sainz is the better driver right now at Ferrari,” he said. “The way Ferrari is now, you need a driver that is consistent and just works at it slowly but gradually, without getting frustrated. “Charles signed his big contract at Ferrari to be a World Champion,” he continued.
Charles Leclerc’s hopes of winning a championship with Ferrari seem to be dwindling

The 2023 F1 season is Charles Leclerc’s fifth season driving for Ferrari. Nevertheless, he has faced a lot of bad luck throughout his time with the Scuderia. This year however, it has been brutal, and that’s all thanks to Max Verstappen. The Dutchman and his team have proven to be invincible having won each and every single race that has taken place this season. No other team including Ferrari has come close to match their dominant streak.
To add more salt to the wound, Red Bull went on to finish 1-2 in Monza which is Ferrari’s home turf, as Max Verstappen crossed the line to get his 10th consecutive win. While doing so, he broke Sebastian Vettel’s 2013 record and marked his name in F1’s hall of fame. It will be interesting to see what Charles Leclerc can do in the remainder of the year to battle with his Red Bull rival.
