Russell moved to Mercedes for 2022, and he made an impression with his first-ever pole position and Grand Prix victory in Hungary and Brazil, respectively, even though the team found it difficult to adjust to the new ground effect era in racing. But during the second half of the 2023 season, Russell has struggled to bring in good results. The team principal Toto Wolff has decided to brush off his struggle.

George is our future, and you know, when I look at all the young men, of the current Formula 1 drivers, he’s the one I would want to have in a car.

Russell recently took some time to consider the past year, stating that he felt he “upped my game” in terms of qualifying and race pace but may not have had the results to show for it. He will use the winter break for a thorough analysis.
