Lewis Hamilton‘s sensational 2025 move to the Ferrari has opened up a pandora’s box within the F1 driver market. Several names have been thrown into the hat regarding next year’s seat but despite all the noise, Ex-F1 driver, Jarno Trulli, has urged Toto Wolff and Co. to sign Fernando Alonso.
The Spanish maestro is currently 42 years old but despite this, has been performing at an extremely high level. Jarno Trulli believes that it will be in the best interest of Mercedes to shy away from hiring the so-called prodigy, Kimi Antonelli, and get on board the veteran, Alonso.
While shedding light on the same in an interview, Jarno Trulli said, as reported by FormulaPassion:
If I were in Mercedes I would take him and he would jump into a car that finally works.
Trulli, in a short and crisp manner, has made it known that the former two-time world champion, Fernando Alonso is the best bet for Mercedes going forward. He firmly believes that despite Alonso being in his 40s, can still do a brilliant job behind the wheel of an F1 machinery.
Fernando Alonso is very good friends with Mercedes’ George Russell
While Jarno Trulli views Fernando alonso as the perfect fit for the Mercedes 2025 seat, the latter shares a very healthy relationship with the Brackley-based team’s driver, George Russell. Moreover, the duo were recently spotted traveling on a plane together.
Russell will be the de-facto team leader at Mercedes from 2025 onward, but in case, Alonso joins the team, the former could be forced to settle into a second driver role. At Aston Martin, the 42-year-old has completely dominated Lance Stroll.

Moreover, Fernando Alonso was able to put in a stellar 2023 campaign where he was able to score several podiums, and ultimately, end his campaign in fourth place in the Driver’s Championship. The upcoming months could decide whether Alonso will be seen repping the black gear of Mercedes from 2025 onwards or not.
