Ex-Ferrari driver claims Lewis Hamilton’s 2025 move has put Carlos Sainz in an ‘uncomfortable and undeserved’ situation

Lewis Hamilton recently put pen to paper regarding a multi-year deal with Ferrari from 2025 onwards. While several people are pleased with this happening, former F1 driver, Jean Alesi, has claimed that it has put the axed Carlos Sainz in a difficult position.

During the 2023 season of the pinnacle of motor racing, Carlos Sainz was the only non-Red Bull driver who was able to score a Grand Prix win. However, despite this fact, the Spaniard did not receive a contract extension but was shown the exit door.

Jean Alesi believes that while Lewis Hamilton‘s arrival is a positive step for Ferrari, Carlos Sainz has got hard done by. While shedding light on the same in an Italian newspaper called Corriere della Sera, he said, as reported by Soymotor:

I feel very sorry for Carlos Sainz. A true gentleman of motorsports who at this moment finds himself in an uncomfortable and undeserved situation. I am convinced that he will take on new opportunities to continue on the grid seeing his talent and also the prestige he has accumulated by racing alongside Leclerc.

Alesi with his reaction has made it quite clear that, despite the recent setback, he fully believes that Carlos Sainz with bounce back stronger. Moreover, he has indicated that Sainz’s stock as an F1 driver has increased massively since racing alongside Charles Leclerc.

While Carlos Sainz has lost his Ferrari drive to Lewis Hamilton from next year onwards, he will have quite a few eyes on him during the upcoming 2024 campaign. There will be teams willing to bring him on board.

However, the 29-year-old will be required to produce a strong season behind the wheel of the SF-24 to garner interest from the lights of Mercedes, and some of the other teams. As per some of the rumors, he is being seen as the ideal candidate for Audi when they enter the sport officially in 2026.

Carlos Sainz since he arrived in F1, has always proved to be a consistent performer. He has gone on to hone his skills year after year and today, is considered one of the best drivers on the current grid. Considering that the upcoming season will be the Spaniard’s last year with the Maranello-based outfit, it will be fascinating to see how he will approach it.
