Lewis Hamilton is one of the best drivers in the history of Formula 1. The seven-time world champion dominated the pinnacle of motorsport for multiple seasons. However, the 39-year-old has struggled with the ground-effect F1 regulations since 2022 and has failed to win a race in the past two seasons. Nevertheless, Hamilton’s former teammate and 2009 F1 champion Jenson Button believes that the Mercedes driver was still at the top of his game.

Button reckoned that Lewis Hamilton still had the same outright pace that he possessed during his championship-winning years. Moreover, the former Brawn GP driver was convinced that the seven-time world champion had grown more comfortable in himself. Jenson Button highlighted Hamilton’s increased confidence in recent years.

Lewis is as good as ever I would say in terms of his outright speed, but also now he seems much more comfortable in himself and confident in his ability, so he makes fewer mistakes.

Subsequently, the former F1 champion claimed that Lewis Hamilton was now at an even higher level compared to five or years ago when he was winning with Mercedes. Jenson Button mentioned that when a driver is comfortable and confident, they can be in a league of their own in a good car. Button cited Max Verstappen‘s current dominance as the perfect example.

He’s even better now than he was five or six years ago... when someone is that strong and that confident in themselves it’s difficult to beat, as you can see with Max Verstappen right now.

Lewis Hamilton still determined to win a record-breaking eighth F1 title

The 39-year-old came close to becoming the first F1 driver to win 8 Drivers’ titles in 2021. However, Hamilton lost the championship to Max Verstappen at the controversial Abu Dhabi GP. Moreover, the Briton fell behind the Red Bull driver in the past two seasons due to Mercedes’ failure to match Milton Keynes.

Nevertheless, Lewis Hamilton is eager to get back to winning ways and claim an eighth world championship. The Briton signed a contract extension with the Silver Arrows which would see him race till the end of 2025. Hamilton remains hopeful of potentially challenging for the title in the next two seasons.

Lewis Hamilton has made it clear that he is willing to race in F1 in his forties. The British driver remains hungry for another championship victory. However, the 39-year-old has an uphill task in the upcoming season as Max Verstappen is expected to be the favorite for yet another year.
