Red Bull have dominated Formula One for two years now, with back-to-back Constructors’ as well as Drivers’ Titles, with barely any competition for both 2022 and 2023. The Milton Keyes team has broken multiple records with its results in the last two years and is almost unbeaten in the current season of F1.

McLaren, contrastingly, have not had the best of its performances in recent times, dropping back from Mercedes, Ferrari, and Red Bull, especially with a bad start to the 2023 season. However, the second half saw the British team introduce major upgrades to their car, which boosted their results by a significant amount. 2009 World Champion Jenson Button believes that McLaren could surprise Red Bull in the 2024 season, seeing how their progress has been.

To catch Red Bull is difficult, but they’re[McLaren] getting closer. We could have an upset next year, I don’t think its going to be all Red Bull’s way

Lando Norris has consistently scored podiums since the upgrades, with seven P2 finishes behind World Champion Max Verstappen. McLaren are also confident about Oscar Piastri, the rookie who managed 2 podiums in his first year driving in the sport.

Lando Norris confident of McLaren’s comeback

McLaren have had an incredible year in 2023, despite a horrendous start, earning the second most points of all teams since the summer break ended. Lando Norris is spearheading the efforts, with multiple podiums, all but one in second place behind Max Verstappen.

Norris is yet to achieve a Grand Prix victory in Formula One, missing out on one 2 laps before the end in Sochi 2021, and coming close many times in 2023. Norris has always come just short of beating Verstappen to the chequered flag but believes he could do so with McLaren in 2024.

Since we bought this upgrade to Austria, I’ve been the second-highest-scoring driver on the grid. I think we’ve been the second-highest-scoring team, potentially. And for us to go from where we were in Bahrain to getting close and talking about fighting a Red Bull, I think are very good signs for us.

Norris’s best chance of a win all year is coming in the Las Vegas Grand Prix right away, which he hopes will throw a spanner in the flawless works of Red Bull with the brand-new circuit and uncertain tire conditions due to low temperatures.
