Jenson Button disagrees with Binotto, says ‘Ferrari doesn’t have the two best F1 driver’ on the grid
Jenson Button refuted Mattia Binotto's statement as the former Ferrari Chief said their team has the two best F1 racers on the grid.

Ferrari had an abysmal day on the Sunday of the Miami GP weekend because of their underperformance–but this is becoming a regular incident seen at all the Grands Prix of 2023. While Carlos Sainz still managed to get a P5 finish at the Miami International Autodrome, his teammate Charles Leclerc disappointed all the Tifosis with his seventh position in the rankings. Adding to the Maranello outfit’s woes, they have amassed only 78 points after five races, with a single podium victory, thanks to Leclerc’s masterful racing at the Baku GP.
Since the last few years, Ferrari’s performance has dipped lower than any fan had ever imagine. Last year, they produced the perfect car–the F1-75–but it could not rise up to the challenge against Red Bull’s RB-18 as the Scuderia had to settle for second place in the Constructors’ Championship. This led to Mattia Binotto resigning from his position, but he still reckoned Ferrari has the two best drivers on the current F1 grid. Now, Formula One Champion Jenson Button has Binotto’s statement.
When asked by the Italian outlet Gazette dello Sport, Jenson Button said, “All three big teams have great duos. So no, I stand slightly differently [to what Binotto said]. And the two [Norris and Piastri] at McLaren are also young, but strong. The great thing is that at all these teams there is no first and second driver. There is so much talent in Formula 1 these days.“
Jenson Button reveals he was almost sure to drive for Ferrari under Stefano Domenicali

The Scuderia Ferrari is Formula One’s oldest and most successful team, and every racer dreams of driving for the Maranello outfit. And Mercedes’ World Champ Jenson Button was no different. Speaking on his wishes to be a Scuderia racer and his almost-fixed contract with the team, Jenson Button said, “I had really wanted it. When Domenicali was there, we talked often. We had already discussed many points in the contract, but then he left and the deal fell through. A real shame.”
Stefano Domenicali was the successor of Jean Todt as the Ferrari Team Principal, but he later resigned in 2014. As of now, he is the CEO of the Formula 1 franchise. Like Jenson Button, seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton was also meant to go to Ferrari as he was spotted speaking with John Elkann, Scuderia Chairman, in 2019. Recently, Martin Brundle made a bombshell claim saying that Hamilton should shift to Ferrari from Mercedes if he wants to win his eighth record-breaking F1 World Championship.
