Former F1 World Champion Jenson Button somehow indicated towards Max’s prowess behind the wheels being superior to that of Lewis’. He said he would be ‘more fearful’ to go against Max Verstappen in the Red Bull than he was going against Lewis Hamilton. Button and Hamilton were teammates at McLaren in 2010-12. Now, the 2009 title holder thinks Verstappen’s ability to adapt to the fastest car in underrated when put into comparison with Lewis.

While speaking to SkySports, Button said“I think Lewis has had some very tough team-mates, he’s had World Champions as team-mates, whereas Max hasn’t. But for me, I would be more fearful going up against Max in the same car. And I think it is because the car is designed around his style, or he can drive a car that Adrian Newey gives him.”

The former F1 racer thinks Max choses to adapt to the quickest car rather than make it more suitable for his driving style. Button added,“I think Adrian gives him a car and says, ‘This is the quickest car in the world. If you take away front downforce, it’s going to go slower, but it’ll be easier to drive.‘” In other words, Button agrees that Hamilton has had better teammates than Verstappen but he cannot discount Max’s talent just for this reason.

Nico Rosberg thinks Hamilton does ‘have a point’ in his teammate debate against Max Verstappen. The former World Champion remains as the only teammate to beat Hamilton for the World title owing to his glorious season in 2016, after which he eventually retired from the Formula One.

On the other hand, Lewis Hamilton has vowed to keep his eyes on the 2024 F1 Championship as he knows this year’s title is almost in the grabs of Max Verstappen. It remains to be seen whether Lewis can still scrounge a Grand Prix victory for himself this year or if the Brit finishes this year with another winless season just like 2022.
