The Mercedes F1 team and Lewis Hamilton are entering their final season together. The latter has decided to join Ferrari from 2025 onwards and while a lot has been said about it, ex-F1 driver turned pundit, Karun Chandhok has also recently stated his opinion on it.

Chandhok firmly believes that Lewis Hamilton‘s decision to leave Mercedes at the end of 2024 was prompted by the lack of progress. Under the current set of regulations, the Toto Wolff-led team has not been able to produce a championship-worthy car.

While shedding light on the same on Sky Sports, Chandhok said, as reported by mirror.co.uk:

Somehow, somewhere, he's either lost confidence in the Mercedes project and doesn't believe they can give him a chance to fight Max Verstappen, or it's just the romantic lure of being in red.

The 40-year-old with his comments, has made it quite clear that in his opinion, the former seven-time world champion, was not pleased with how things panned out at Mercedes over the last two years. Moreover, has indicated that the prospect of driving a scarlet red Ferrari was probably too big of an opportunity for Hamilton to let go.

Lewis Hamilton could break the F1 world championship record at Ferrari

While Karun Chandok has given a fascinating take on Lewis Hamilton’s move to the Ferrari F1 team, the Brit will have the chance to become the outright F1 world championship record holder at the Italian outfit. Currently, he is tied with Michael Schumacher on seven titles each.

If the 39-year-old is able to secure his eighth world title as a driver for the Maranello-based team, then it will go down into history books in golden letters. Moreover, will be etched into the hearts of the fans forever, be it the Ferrari supporters or the fans of the sport in general.

However, before Lewis Hamiton’s romantic journey begins with Ferrari, he has a full season on his hands with the Toto Wolff-led Mercedes F1 team. Toto, George Russell, and Lewis are slated to launch their 2024 challenger on the upcoming 14th of February (Valentine’s Day).
