The Saudi Arabian GP is underway in the 2024 season. The reigning world champion Max Verstappen held the pole position for the race. Alongside the Dutchman, Charles Leclerc was the front-row occupier for the second race of the season. However, down the race, Lance Stroll had a disappointing crash at turn 7 of the Jeddah Corniche circuit.
The incident immediately caused yellow flags through sectors two and three and slowed down the drivers. Additionally, the crash also caused a Safety Car until the crew cleared the circuit to continue racing. Multiple drivers pitted under the safety car and made some changes to the strategy. However, following the crash, Lance Stroll was visibly frustrated. However, the exact reasons for the crash haven’t been unveiled yet as the driver likely had some issues while driving the Challenger.
Lance Stroll informed his race engineer about how he hit the wall during the race. Following this, the race engineer questioned if he could bring the car back into the pit lane and retire from the race. However, the radio engineer was unaware of the intensity of the crash initially. Hence, Stroll burst out saying how he was in the wall and unable to retrieve the car by driving it to the pitlane.

Lance Stroll’s underwhelming results continue
Lance Stroll’s performance during the season opener at the Bahrain GP wasn’t exactly a highlight for the driver. An early-on collision in the race caused him to fall down to P20 during lap 1 of the race. However, the driver committed to racing and finally finished P10 in the pecking order.
Regardless, a P10 finish wasn’t the best result for the driver, in contrast to his overachieving teammate Fernando Alonso. Stroll also failed to outshine his teammate during the 2023 season and would likely finish behind the two-time world champion in the 2024 season as well. However, time will tell how the season pans out for the two teammates at Aston Martin.
Lance Stroll’s degrading performance could seriously sabotage Aston Martin’s results this season. Regardless, the team needs to perform well and potentially outscore their prime challenger, McLaren. Silverstone had similar issues during the 2023 season and lost out on the P4 finish in the constructors’s championship due to Stroll’s mistakes as well.
