Lando Norris had an underwhelming Qualifying at the Italian GP. The British driver finished 9th as McLaren struggled to match the front runners and Alex Albon’s Williams. The 23-year-old will aim to get some crucial points for the Woking-based team on Sunday. However, Norris believes the McLaren MCL60 prevents its drivers from racing to their full potential.

The British driver was cautious about the team’s prospects in the race. Norris claimed it might be difficult to make up places for the Woking-based team. Yet, the 23-year-old will attempt to recover after a disappointing session. Moreover, Lando Norris asserted that the inefficiency of the car was hindering the team’s results in the race. He said, “I don’t think we can really go forwards, but we will try. We have an inefficient car and that doesn’t allow us to race well.”

Norris pointed out that McLaren expected to have a challenging weekend at Monza even before the cars hit the track. Lando Norris stated, “We said already on Thursday that it would be a tough weekend.” Although, the 23-year-old reckoned that the pecking order is still close with teams being separated by only a couple of tenths.

Williams Racing has surprised the paddock in recent weeks, with both Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant scoring points at the Dutch GP. Albon once again delivered a solid performance as the Thai driver put his car in P6 for the Italian GP, outperforming Lando Norris. Subsequently, the British driver believes McLaren would struggle to match the Grove-based team.

The 23-year-old highlighted that McLaren has made changes to its wings for the Monza’s long straights. However, this is not enough to stop the Williams car which is extremely quick on a straight. Lando Norris admitted that he would be finishing behind the Grove-based team in Monza. The 23-year-old concluded, “I’m expecting to be behind the Williams, and we expect them to finish ahead.”

Thus, Lando Norris has mentioned that the inefficiency of the MCL60 is a major cause of concern for the Woking-based team. The 23-year-old claimed that this aspect of the McLaren car has forced him and teammate Oscar Piastri to struggle against rivals. As such, the British team must try and focus on working on improving the car’s efficiency in the coming weeks.
