McLaren is an icon of Formula One and is a team that preceded the car constructor that sponsors it. Founded by Bruce McLaren after his F1 career, the team has gone on to win multiple championships and achieve incredible success in the sport, harbouring legendary drivers.

However, the team took a huge hit in the 2010s, falling victim to incompatibility with Honda engines. Even after that, McLaren has only won a single race, with Daniel Ricciardo winning in Monza in 2021. Lando Norris, McLaren’s star driver, claims that the team has not done a good job in the last five years, since his debut in the sport, McLaren has not done the ideal job that they expected to.

It is Formula 1, and some things move quickly, and therefore you would say: 'Have we done a good enough job?' and you'd have to say: 'No, we haven't over the last five years.'

Lando Norris has spent his entire five-year career with McLaren, achieving thirteen podiums in that stint of time. The Briton has equalled the record for most podiums without a win, as McLaren have failed to deliver on their promise of giving him a championship-winning car so far.

Lando Norris motivated by Oscar Piastri, says Martin Brundle

Lando Norris is the star driver for the McLaren F1 team, outperforming all his teammates but Carlos Sainz. Daniel Ricciardo could not come close to matching the Briton in his entire time with the team, despite one race win at the 2021 Italian Grand Prix.

Norris may have relaxed with Ricciardo, but he isn’t relaxing with his second Australian teammate. Oscar Piastri, the F1 rookie, gave Lando Norris a real run for his money at some tracks this year as F1 pundit Martin Brundle pointed out. Brundle claims Norris was ‘sharpened up’ by his young teammate, helping motivate him.

Oscar Piastri has really sharpened Lando Norris up. Now he has to get on with it a little bit because Piastri has turned up, as a rookie, delivering the high speeds through the really challenging corners, delivering some amazing results.
Martin Brundle said, as reported by planetf1

Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris shared two podiums in 2023 amidst a comeback season for the team, the only squad but Red Bull to achieve a double podium all year. Piastri even won a race, taking victory at the sprint in Qatar.
