Lando Norris and McLaren have had a roller coaster of a season so far. At the start of the year, it seemed like McLaren was going to struggle throughout their campaign. However, Andrea Stella revealed the upgrades that they had planned for the cars during the season. Once the upgrades were fitted on the cars, it changed everything. Suddenly, the team began to pressure its rivals at the top.

While all was going well for the Papaya team, the Belgian GP went on to reveal their weakness at high speed circuits. Lando Norris was only able to finish 7th. When it came to their weekend at the Italian GP, Norris qualified ninth and finished eighth. Alex Albon did a massive effort of defending his place during the race wherein fans also went on to refer to the British-Thai driver as “GigaAlbon”. Nevertheless, he felt that the car was competitive overall.

Asked by Autosport if the result represented damage limitation, Norris said:“I think it was damage limitation. At the same time, good to see the progress we made on a low downforce circuit. I know there wasn’t a lot, and a bit of it is just things you have from last year, and trying to optimise them for here. But we made some good improvements, and it was a raceable car, which is a good step forward. And there’s only one more low downforce track this season [Las Vegas],” he continued.

The Brit had an incident with his teammate Oscar Piastri during the race, wherein they came together in the ending stages of the race. However, both the drivers escaped without any serious damage to the car. Lando downplayed the clash, stating that it was probably due to Oscar having cold tyres or understeer.

While Carlos Sainz had gotten pole on Saturday, Max Verstappen showed his magic and grabbed yet another win at Monza. This meant that he had broken Sebastian Vettel’s record of 9 consecutive race victories set in 2013. Max is now the proud holder of that record with 10 wins to his name. It will be interesting to see whether he will be able to increase his tally in the coming races.
