“What they did was extremely good,” Lando Norris calls for Ferrari “level of a jump” from McLaren

Lando Norris, an epitome of positivity, heading in the right direction, full of hope and hunger.

McLaren driver Lando Norris is reportedly feeling optimistic about the 2023 season, he has a multi-year contract with the team and is committed to them till 2025. He believes that his team has the potential to challenge others in the upcoming season. This optimism seems to have stemmed from Ferrari’s improvement in 2022, they had stepped up their game last season and made a remarkable delivery on track.

Lando Norris believes that his team is capable of unlocking their potential and having a go at it with the front runners, Red Bull, Ferrari, and Mercedes. Signing a contract with the team is a significant moment for a driver, and without belief, in the organization, it would not last long. He has a good relationship with his team which led him to sign a multi-year contract.

It is not just Norris who has acknowledged Ferrari’s new gained speed. It’s safe to say that other drivers like Verstappen, Hamilton and Russell mentioned the threat the team posed, which could have led them to win the championship last season. However, the lack of strategy and coordination within the team cost them the title which they hope to redeem in the coming season.

Looking at Ferrari’s development over the 2021 winter break, hope has risen in Norris. In an interview with Motorsport.com, McLaren’s hotshot Briton stated that they needed to make progress and that they have opportunities to do so. “That’s achievable. I think what they did was extremely good. Going from where they were [in 2021], from almost getting beat by us, to going to where they are – getting wins, fighting for podiums every single weekend,”

He added: “That’s what we need to be aiming for, that level of a jump from one season to another. They’ve obviously had, not the luck, but they’ve maximized a newer, a new rule set for Formula 1 with the new cars, which allowed them to make a bigger jump than ever. But, there’s still plenty of opportunities for us to achieve something like that. And that’s where we need to be setting our goals for.”

Norris hopes to reap the benefits of the time, effort, and energy he has devoted to the team. If anything, Ferrari has shown that it is quite possible to turn things around in a short span and has given hope to the McLaren driver. They will now be setting strong goals for the upcoming season. With the new regulations equalizing the field, we are now bound to witness an epic battle between the teams. Is it going to be a three-way battle or four or more? Only time will tell.
