McLaren’s back-to-back podiums in Japan and Qatar have put them within an arm’s reach of P4 Aston Martin in the Constructors’ standings. With their excellent form and a meager 11-point gap, McLaren’s Lando Norris has asserted that they are set to challenge Ferrari for P3.

Ferrari currently has 298 points and is 79 points clear of McLaren. Norris claims that the task is doable for the team. They were nearly 70 points behind Aston Martin just a few races back. He also applauded the new world record set by McLaren for the fastest pitstop of 1.8 seconds in Qatar. He said the team is working exceptionally hard and is positive that they will overtake Ferrari.

“It’s doable, I think so. A couple of races ago it was 70-something [points] to Aston. I think we’re just doing a good job, not just in terms of pace but we had a 1.8 second pit stop which is pretty impressive from the guys,” said Norris, as per Autosport.

While McLaren is in stellar form, Ferrari has been putting up many inconsistent performances. After their win in Singapore, it seemed as if the team’s problems had become a thing of the past. However, just two races later, they faced a big blow. Carlos Sainz was unable to start the Qatar GP after his car had a fuel leak an hour before the race.

McLaren urges Lando Norris to ‘find the right balance’ on self-critiquing

Lando Norris’ humbleness has been one of the traits the fans love about him. He is often seen in interviews criticizing his own performances over others. Even after finishing P3 in the Qatar GP, he was more fixated on the fact that he had qualified P10 for the race. McLaren boss Andrea Stella gave his views on this trait, saying that too much of it is not good for him.

While Stella appreciated Norris’ honesty, he said that as a future champion, he needs to find the right balance. He urged him to be less harsh on himself and start prioritizing things. Stella said that both Norris and Piastri have a long way to go, and he is glad that it is with McLaren.

“But at the same time, like I said before about champions, you need to find the right balance, and you need to find the right dynamics in terms of communication to the world and in terms of communication to yourself,” said Stella.
