Qualifying at the Austrian GP was marked with track limits. Drivers had their lap times deleted on several instances for breaching track limits in the last two corners of the circuit. Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez were two drivers who were vocal about the way track limits were being scrutinized. However, Lando Norris decided to take a clever dig at the Red Bull drivers.
When asked about this issue, the Briton replied, “They’re in the quickest car, why are they complaining?” The 23-year-old hit out at the two-time world champion for having a problem with track limits at the Red Bull Ring. Norris further mentioned that these limits have been in effect at the circuit for some time now. He said, “I mean it’s been the same here for a number of years. So I won’t say it’s anything different.”
The 23-year-old understood that complaining is always an easy thing to do for F1 drivers. Although Norris acknowledged that it is not easy for drivers as they might be forced to keep track of boundaries into account every single turn. The Briton suggested that drivers and the stewards should find a compromise. Lando Norris stated, “I mean there’s compromises I feel we should be able to make. corners where there’s gravel so close to exits.”

Lando Norris reveals the brutal nature of track limits

The British driver explained the tough situation at the Red Bull Ring. The last few corners of the circuit are at high speeds, where drivers are racing the cars in seventh gear. This results in some close calls with a single mistake enough to ruin the lap. Norris said, “You click the kerb and one little thing happens then game over. You miss it by this much and it’s game over.”
The McLaren driver, too, faced some lap time deletions at this track over his time in the sport. Though, Norris did not have to face the same fate as that of Perez or George Russell. The two drivers were eliminated at the end of Q2 as their lap times got deleted for violation of track limits. Both Perez and Russell will start the race from outside the Top 10.
Thus, Lando Norris did not miss the opportunity to hit out at Max Verstappen. The Briton driver acknowledged the tough characteristics of the track in Austria that can force drivers to violate track limits. However, Norris made it clear that these limits have been in place at the Red Bull Ring for years and are not any different this time around.
