Fernando Alonso is the oldest driver on the current F1 grid. The 43-year-old has the most experience amongst all current drivers, spanning as far back as the early 2000s. However, the Spanish driver remains motivated to win in F1 once again. Now, Aston Martin Chairman Lawrence Stroll has stated that Alonso still acts like he’s in his 20s.

The Spanish driver joined Aston Martin this year after Sebastian Vettel retired from the sport. Stroll highlighted that the 43-year-old contributes massively towards the team’s ambitions as the Silverstone-based team builds itself to become a front-runner in F1. Moreover, Lawrence Stroll mentioned that Alonso’s energy is no less than a 22-year-old driver.

Stroll told Sky Sports, “It has contributed a lot. It is full of energy, as if I were 22 years old. He is very committed, extremely motivated.” The Canadian billionaire reckoned that apart from Alonso’s brilliance on track, the Spanish driver benefits Aston Martin’s marketing as an ambassador for the carmaker. He said, “He is fantastic as a Formula 1 driver, I would say that on and off the track he is a fantastic ambassador for Aston Martin.”

Lawrence Stroll on Fernando Alonso’s future at Aston Martin

Fernando Alonso’s current contract sees the Spaniard stay at Silverstone until 2024. However, the 43-year-old’s future beyond that point remains unknown for now. Aston Martin has been rumored to be signing Honda prodigy Yuki Tsunoda in the future as the British team joins hands with the Japanese carmaker for power units in 2026.

With Lawrence’s son Lance Stroll seemingly staying at Aston Martin because of his father’s influence, Alonso might be the one who is sidelined for Tsunoda. However, the Aston Martin Chairman has clarified that the team has not ruled out any options for the future. The Canadian stated, “Everything is possible. At this time you have a contract to pilot with us next year and we are looking forward to it.”

Certainly, Fernando Alonso remains one of the best performers on the grid. The Spanish driver has impressed the entire paddock with his results this season. However, the 43-year-old might be running out of time to win in F1 once again. Although, it remains to be seen how much longer Alonso continues to race at the pinnacle of motorsport.
