Lance Stroll has gone through one of the most challenging phases of his F1 career during the 2023 F1 season. He has been downright outclassed by his former 2-time world champion teammate, Fernando Alonso, but despite this fact, his father, Lawrence Stroll, has defended him and said that Lance had been a victim of bad luck.
Lance Stroll has been making his trade at the pinnacle of motor racing for several years but, for one or the other reason, is yet to prove his mettle as an F1 driver. Over the years, he has had his bright moments, but they have been very few in comparison to the races he has competed in so far. Moreover, 2023 has just been a year to forget for him.
While there are still five races remaining in the ongoing campaign, Stroll said as reported by Racingnews360, “Lance started the year on the back foot with two broken wrists for the first half-dozen races, which was very challenging, but really did a heroic job – and he’s had an unfortunate amount of bad luck. He’s had nine retirements due to engine failures, or a rear-wing fail [at the Japanese Grand Prix].”
“Half of the races it hasn’t been anything to do with his own abilities, he has just had a lot of bad luck, sadly.” Looking at the reaction of the Aston Martin F1 team owner, it is quite clear that he is convinced that Lance’s poor form has nothing to do with his racing abilities. He ardently feels bad luck is the main reason for his son’s dismal 2023 form.

Lance Stroll has a chance to salvage his 2023 F1 campaign during the upcoming races
While Lawrence Stroll does not see any fault of Lance Stroll behind his poor form, the latter can still salvage his 2023 F1 season during the remaining five races. Considering the points gap he currently has with Fernando Alonso, the only thing he can do is try to come up with consistent performances. If he can do this, it would bode well for 2024.
The junior Stroll has on occasion proved in the past that he belongs in F1; however, despite this, he has not been able to step up his game to a level where he could be considered a potent F1 racer. The upcoming United States GP could be a turning point for him if he can get his act together alongside the mighty Alonso.

The Spaniard has dramatically changed the fortunes of Aston Martin since arriving at the team, and Lance can learn a lot from him. Alonso’s know-how of F1 is on a whole other level, given his experience, and considering this, Lance should aim to put in good performances during the remaining 2023 races and put everything that he has and will learn from Alonso till Abu Dhabi to good use during the 2024 campaign.
