The Aston Martin Racing Team‘s times in Formula One are riding on a high right now with a second spot in the World Championship Standings thanks to Fernando Alonso‘s consistent podium finishes. On the business side, Lawrence Stroll made a move to further realise his visions for AMR by bringing Honda in the loop as their new engine sponsors. The Japanese team was previously linked to Red Bull while Aston Martin is currently a customer team of Mercedes.

But from the 2026 F1 season, when some big changes are expected to arrive in the Formula One rules, Honda will be seen as an engine supplier for Aston Martin. Amidst this groundbreaking deal, Lawrence Stroll has made another cunning business move by shedding off 34.9 million shares in his company for the price of $145 Million. The buyers are a Chinese automobile manufacturing company named Geely. With this sale, Papa Stroll remains the lead shareholder of his British luxury automaker, with about 21% shares to his name.

In 2020, owing to a massive buyout, Lawrence Stroll became the owner of Aston Martin. Then, he merged his existing Formula 1 team, Racing Point, with aid from some new sponsors and gave the moniker ‘Aston Martin Racing Team’. Now, the sale of such a big number of shares of the parent company just after AMR securing their deal with Honda has raised some eyebrows in F1 town. Perhaps, Lawrence Stroll aims to recover the cost of the expensive Honda contract with the money recovered from this sale.

While Lawrence Stroll is out there making big businessman moves, his son Lance Stroll, recruited under his team as an F1 racer, let Aston Martin down in Monaco. While teammate Fernando Alonso has largely overshadowed Lance with his consistent finishes throughout the first five races of this season, Lance has failed to impress the fans.

And at the Monaco GP, he simply crashed out while steering through the narrow street circuit and had to retire from the race. This has made many followers complain that Lance is not appropriate to be an Aston Martin racer if Lawrence Stroll truly wants to see his team advance. But the other Aston Martin driver, Alonso, is slowly getting closer to the first step of the podium with every Grand Prix.

In Monaco, he seemed to have a real chance at going for the win, but he finally succumbed to Verstappen’s pace and finished second. At the upcoming Spanish GP, Nando is expected to excel as it is his home ground as well as the circuit where he won his last race till date, in 2013.
