“Learning from other international sports governing bodies”: FIA takes pointers from football and rugby to learn “refereeing procedures” for F1

Ever since the quite disastrous end to the 2021 Formula 1 Championship where several controversies came up because of Max Verstappen‘s victory and Lewis Hamilton’s failure to secure his record-setting eighth World Championship title, the FIA have made sure that the rules and regulations undergo a paradigm shift in this current season. Thus, in order to govern over such a hugely successful sports franchise with proper efficiency, the governing body of F1, the FIA, have announced that they are taking pointers from other authorities who set the rules for international sports franchises like football and rugby.
The FIA have declared that the nuances about “refereeing procedures” they have learnt from the “other international sports governing bodies” will be incorporated in their new Formula 1 race direction programme.

The FIA indicate considerable advancement in their new race direction development programme
Newly appointed FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem has spoken for the implementation of new rules in Formula 1 to make sure no such incident as the F1 World Championship finale of 2021 happens during his tenure. According to The Race, the goals of the new race direction development programme will be to “quantify the performance of race direction and stewarding”.
It is evident from all these advancements that Formula 1 is headed towards a new horizon as it is gaining more popularity with each day, and the regulations are also getting a huge makeover after the 2021 Abu Dhabi GP. Now, it remains to be seen how Mohammed bin Sulayem’s new rules work out for the sport in the end.
