“Leclerc is two tenths faster,” Franz Tost claims Charles Leclerc is faster than Carlos Sainz

Charles, Franz, and, Carlos
Charles Leclerc who has had a pretty up-and-down 2022 has been deemed as the faster driver at the Maranello-based Ferrari outfit by AlphaTauri Team Principal Franz Tost.
Franz Tost during his career in F1 has only had the privilege of working with one of the Ferrari drivers and that was with Carlos Sainz who according to him is a bit behind the Leclerc.
The 66-year-old has been the boss of Red Bull’s sister team since 2005 and he was the one who looked after the introduction of the Spaniard to Formula One in 2015 alongside Max Verstappen who was also entering his first season in the pinnacle of motorsports.
Carlos spent three seasons with the Toro Rosso (AlphaTauri) team before moving on to Renault in 2017, from there he switched to MacLaren in 2019 and after spending 2 years, finally made the move to the Ferrari F1 Team in 2021.

The 27-year-old in his first season with Ferrari was able to finish ahead of Charles Leclerc which came as a surprise up and down the paddock, however, in 2022 the Spaniard has come out second best to Leclerc on most occasions.
After 13 rounds, Leclerc has got a lead of 22 points over Sainz and Franz Tost believes the extra tenths that the Monegasque can extract out of the F1-75 is what is helping him in getting the edge over Carlos Sainz.

Franz Tost believes Charles Leclerc is faster in terms of basic speed

Charles Leclerc despite not scoring points as per expectations has been a problem for Max Verstappen in single-lap pace and this is where Tost feels Carlos Sainz lacks in comparison to Charles Leclerc.
Moreover, while comparing the two Tost said, “Carlos is talented and extremely hard-working.”
“But in terms of basic speed, Leclerc is two-tenths faster.”

Franz Tost has kept Charles Leclerc ahead in the pecking order in terms of raw pace at Ferrari and if we consider how the 2022 season has panned out for both the drivers, it can be said that Tost is very much on point with his assessment of the two.
Carlos Sainz hasn’t been able to match Charles Leclerc in terms of pace all season and with 9 races left on the 2022 calendar, do you think he would be able to challenge Leclerc in the second leg?
