“Lewis broke all records because he had the fastest car,” Fernando Alonso takes a dig at former teammate
Fernando and Lewis
Fernando Alonso the 2-time Formula One winner and current Alpine driver has recently talked about Lewis Hamilton and his difficult start to the 2022 F1 season.
Lewis Hamiton has been on the radar of all the sports analysts ever since the start of the 2022 season and has gathered headlines for reasons he would have hoped to avoid ahead of the current season.
Mercedes is currently struggling to keep pace with Red Bull and Ferrari and race by race are tumbling down the pecking order.
Lewis Hamilton in particular has struggled a lot this season and is currently 7th in the Drivers Championship with only 28 points to his name after 4 rounds.
Fernando Alonso who himself had a difficult start to the current season has come out and said, “It’s Formula 1. It has always been like this – said the Alpine driver – when Senna won races and titles, he had the fastest car. When I won the championship, I had the fastest car. Michael had the fastest car. Lewis broke all records because he had the fastest car. Lewis is now driving very well and is 13th. This is Formula 1“
Fernando Alonso has stressed that the most important thing in the sport is to have a strong car otherwise even the best drivers find it difficult to cope with the sport.
The Alpine driver believes the W13 was born badly and Lewis Hamilton is paying the price for the average job that the Mercedes team did during the off-time after the 2021 season.
Fernando Alonso: It’s like battling Lewis last year or Verstappen
Fernando ahead of the 2022 season was very vocal about his hopes of seeing a closer grid with the new regulations but so far is a bit disappointed and feels the situation has not changed a lot from last year.
According to him last year it was Mercedes and Red Bull and this year it is Ferrari and Red Bull, for this reason, the Spaniard has said, “the situation has not changed much compared to a year ago.”
‘There is no race at the moment [with Red Bull and Ferrari]. It’s like battling Lewis last year, or Verstappen. They start last and finish on the podium, so there’s not much to fight for,” concluded Alonso.
Alonso so far in the 2022 season has scored only 2 points and has been hit hard by a barrage of bad luck during the initial rounds of Formula One. However, Alpine has a strong car this season and in the upcoming races, the Spaniard would be looking to move further up the grid and make inroads for the other drivers on the grid.
