Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen have contradicting views over the rolling start in Monaco
Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen
Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen have different opinions on the Rolling start, the rivals still contradict but have their reasons to stick with it. Lewis thinks it was not the right decision to be made since all the Formula 1 drivers have their belts tight for a wet race, and moreover, it wouldn’t have been the first time Monaco saw a rainy race. Max on the other hand thinks it was the right decision because the tracks were half wet which would have given some drivers an advantage over the others.
Lewis and Max were the main focus of the 2021 season, they both had a fight of the generation they managed to get the battle to the last race, with Max Verstappen winning the race and the Championship. They were very critical of the relationship they carried, it wasn’t one of the best relationships between the title contenders. They made contacts and were over the top of each other throughout the season.
Hamilton feels the race should have gone ahead in time, “You think they didn’t do a good job? I was not saying it was a mistake – I don’t know the reason for them not sending us out at the get-go – but we are Formula 1 drivers so [the weather] is not a good enough reason, That’s what I was saying. I was like ‘let’s go’ when it was just drizzling a little bit at the beginning.”
He also mentioned the driver briefing and said it would be a matter of discussion, “We will talk about it in the drivers’ briefing but we should have started the race,” said Lewis.

Max had a different view and supports the FIA for the decision made by them, “It was going to be a rolling start,” he said.
He continued “A standing start, of course, it might make a difference. But anyway, it wouldn’t have been fair if it would have been a standing start just because of the difference in…well, the left side was still quite wet. And that’s why it was a good call to do a rolling start.
Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton after the last season
This season hasn’t seen the best of Lewis but Max is still on the top of the Championship. The 7-time world champion is behind his new teammate with 50 points, 5th on the table. The regaining champion is still fighting for more this time around Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc is under target and is leading the championship with 125 points.
Lewis has been struggling with the new W13 and has only managed one podium this season, while Max has been unstoppable with 4 wins in 7 races and a podium in Monaco. Red Bull has the best car this season, or arguably on the level of Ferrari, while Mercedes is still figuring out a few things to get back on top.
