Canadian GP 2022: 2021 title rivals, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton pitted for same press conference slot

The drivers and team “get in on the action” at the press conference ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Following a dramatic finish to the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Max Verstappen is expected to take a seat next to his prime 2021 competitor, 7-time Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton.

The drivers’ press conference will be held on Friday morning (local time). This was hitherto held on Thursday, but in an effort to shorten the weekend, F1 has relocated this media event to Friday in 2022. The twenty drivers are classified into four groups of five, with the first group beginning at 3:30 p.m. UK time.

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc is the most well-known member of the first cohort. When his engine blew, he was forced to abandon the race in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in the Baku City Circuit. George Russell, who was sitting next to him in the news room, took control of the situation and took a podium position. This group also comprises McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo, Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll, and Alpine’s Esteban Ocon.

The most entertaining overture comes after a cohort with 2-time F1 World Champion Fernando Alonso, AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly, 4-time F1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel, Red Bull’s Sergio Perez, and Williams’ Nicholas Latifi. Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen are both in group three. Verstappen as the last race winner and world championship leader, next to his 2021 direct competitor who is trying to cope to get out of his W13 in 2022 because it wobbles too much.

The two leaders are joined by Alfa Romeo’s Guanyu Zhou, Haas’ Mick Schumacher, and Williams’ Alexander Albon. On Saturday, ahead of the third free practise session, there will be a press conference for team bosses.  At 3:30pm UK time, Franz Tost, Otmar Szafnauer, and Mike Krack will take their seats, followed by Frederic Vasseur, Zak Brown, and Jost Capito.
