The seven-time Formula 1 world champion, Lewis Hamilton, qualified in fourth place for the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix. Due to Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg’s red flag breach, he was handed a three-place grid penalty moving Hamilton to third place. It is a second-row lock-out for the Mercedes drivers, as George Russell will start the race right behind his teammate.

Double world champions Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso are ahead of the Mercedes star occupying first and second place. While Lewis Hamilton claims the Red Bull driver will likely be long gone before he catches up to him, he is ready for a battle with his arch-rival Alonso. The 38-year-old made a bold statement and vowed to give Alonso “hell” during the race.

After the qualifying session, Lewis Hamilton stated, “We are ahead of the Ferraris. Max will be gone most likely, But if I can hold onto Alonso and give him hell that’s what I’ll do.” Hamilton and Alonso have been on the grid for over a decade. They have had spicy battles over the years, and there is no doubt there will be even more in the upcoming races. Mercedes have improved in the last two rounds thanks to their new upgrades and can take the fight to Aston Martin.

Hamilton added, “That’s a great result for George and me as well. Hopefully, from there we can move forwards. We should be in a much better position for race pace. Our race pace is often better and I’m hoping it is.” While Fernando Alonso will aim for his sixth podium in eight races this season, he must watch out for Hamilton and Russell. The Mercedes duo will come prepared to challenge him in their upgraded W14.

The Mercedes drivers are happy with their grid position. Russell was on the same page as Hamilton stating Alonso would be their target. Though both claim Verstappen is in a different league, they feel confident about their race pace. Hamilton and Russell will fight for a podium. Mercedes secured their first double podium of the season at the Spanish GP and will hope to replicate the result in Montreal.

As Hamilton won his first Formula 1 race in Montreal, there is no doubt the Mercedes icon will hope to deliver a strong result in a circuit close to his heart.

Lewis Hamilton also explained that the qualifying session was difficult for everybody. He stated it was hard to keep the cars on track due to the weather condition. The Briton said it was slippery and difficult to generate temperature in the tires. The teams hope for better weather conditions during the race.
