Lewis Hamilton, the 7-time Formula 1 World Champion, has competed at the pinnacle of motor racing for over two decades. Hamilton is an absolute legend of the sport, and while he is in desperate pursuit of the elusive eighth world title, he has recently made it known that once he retires, he might never be seen on the F1 grid again.
Lewis Hamilton’s F1 career began in 2007 when he first participated in the sport with the McLaren F1 team. Since 2013, he has experienced a plethora of successful years with Mercedes, and despite having triumphed for a world record seven times, he still has the desire to keep going. He has recently signed a two-year contract extension with the German team.
While the 38-year-old will be seen sparkling his magic around the various types of tracks for a few more years, he does not see himself returning to the sport after his retirement. While shedding light on the same, he told Blick, ” That won’t happen to me. When it is over, then it is over. I can’t imagine standing in the paddock or in the garage – without getting into a car. But as I said before, Never say never.“
#F1: Lewis Hamilton doesn’t think he would retire then come back to the grid: “That won't happen to me. When the it is over, then it is over. I can't imagine standing in the paddock or in the garage – without getting into a car. But as I said before: Never say never.”

Looking at the comments of the Brit, it is quite clear that while he is adamant about never returning to the F1 grid after his retirement, he has also, on the other hand, not completely closed the door on it. Several F1 legends have returned in the past, and to name a few, there have been the lights of the former 2-time world champion, Fernando Alonso, and 2007 winner, Kimi Raikkonen.
Lewis Hamilton could have a real go at the 2024 F1 world championship
While the dawn of the new era of the pinnacle of motor racing has not proved kind to Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes, there is a genuine belief that the Brackley-based team would turn out to be real title contenders next year. The Toto Wolff-led team has had quite a few learnings over the last two years, and several pundits believe that the W15 could take the fight to Max Verstappen and Co.
Moreover, during the ongoing F1 campaign, Mercedes has improved immensely in comparison to the initial few races, and the team has recently made it known that the W15 is going to be developed on the same lines as that of the W14. Considering this, they will be in good stead during the winter break after the end of the 2023 F1 season.

Only six races remain in the ongoing campaign, and Lewis Hamilton and Co. are in a serious fight with Ferrari for second place in the Constructors Championship. If Mercedes can finish behind Red Bull, it would be considered nothing short of a success, considering how much they have struggled since 2022.
