The 2023 season has seen a constant flow of progress at the Mercedes Formula 1 team. After a few initial setbacks, the team bounced back strong. Lewis Hamilton, after his P2 finish in Mexico, has claimed that his team will be seen having some great battles next year.

Recently, Lewis Hamilton signed a two-year contract extension with the Brackley-based team with the hope of challenging for the world championship in 2024. Meanwhile, at the same time, he feels that the Red Bull F1 team would also be upgrading ahead of the next year for Max Verstappen.

The 38-year-old has envisioned a bright future for Mercedes and while talking about the same, he told grandprix247:

We can build a great car. We haven’t for the past two years but we can build a great car. There are a lot of engineers who… nobody wants to copy anybody, they want to find their own way. I think we are progressing but I heard Red Bull are progressing as well. We have to be really, really strategic and really clinical with moves. If we can get the car that can match them, we’re going to have some great battles next year.

Moreover, with the way Mercedes has progressed this year, Hamilton genuinely feels that his team would be seen mixing it up with Max Verstappen and Co. in 2024.

Lewis Hamilton is in touching distance of second place in the 2023 Driver’s Championship

While Lewis Hamilton feels that great things are ahead in Mercedes’s future, he himself can achieve something great for his team this year. After his brilliant outing at the Mexican GP, the 38-year-old has significantly closed the gap to Sergio Perez in the 2023 Drivers Championship.

As things stand, Hamilton has so far managed 220 points in the season whereas Perez has crawled his way to only 240 in the mighty RB19. Moreover, considering the latter’s woeful form, the Mercedes legend will have every chance of clinching second place in the upcoming Grand Prix events.

The Brazilian Grand Prix is just a week away and it is Lewis Hamilton’s one of the favorite events on an F1 calendar. He has all the skills in his arsenal to achieve P2 but it is not going to be easy to keep the view that Perez has a knack for coming up with potent performances when the situation demands.
