Lewis Hamilton and George Russell were charging for the lead at the ending stages of the Singapore GP. However, Russell cracked under pressure as four cars battled it out for victory. The 25-year-old crashed into the barriers on the final lap and was forced to retire from the race. Now Hamilton has given a few words of consolation to his teammate.

The seven-time world champion admitted that it was unfortunate for Russell to lose out on a podium finish on the last lap. The 38-year-old mentioned that the two Mercedes were giving it everything to try and take the lead in the race. Moreover, Lewis Hamilton pointed out that overheated tires might have been a cause behind George Russell’s crash.

Nevertheless, the 38-year-old was confident George Russell would deliver a strong performance next weekend in Japan. Hamilton reckoned that the 25-year-old had been incredible throughout the Singapore GP weekend. He told SkySports, “Of course it’s unfortunate for George, we were pushing so hard to catch these guys, and our tires were so hot but we will bounce back, he’s been phenomenal all weekend.”

Lewis Hamilton is happy to have an entertaining race in Singapore

The 2023 Singapore GP was full of action, particularly in the last ten laps of the race. Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris faced immense pressure from the two Mercedes drivers in a four-car battle for the race lead. Although, Hamilton and Russell failed to succeed in their attempts to get past the two drivers. The seven-time world champion was delighted with a thrilling race at the Marina Bay Circuit.

The Mercedes driver reckoned that all races should deliver such action-packed racing. Moreover, Lewis Hamilton claimed that he had perhaps lost two kilograms inside the cockpit. However, the seven-time champion believed it could’ve been worse, considering the high temperatures in the city-state. Hamilton concluded, “This is how it should be, it’s incredibly hot but I think I’ve only lost two kilos today so it’s not too bad.”

Lewis Hamilton finished third at the Singapore GP behind Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz. However, the seven-time champion had the pace of potentially taking the race lead if more laps were remaining. Nevertheless, it is an encouraging result for Hamilton and the Silver Arrows as the Formula 1 paddock heads to Japan next weekend.
