Lewis Hamilton demands for more diversity: “F1 against racism still does little”
Lewis Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton, the most successful black driver and arguably the greatest of all time in general, speaks out on the discrimination he faced that other drivers didn’t have to go through. Hamilton had been through Racism a lot in his career, from being in karts to being inside a Formula 1. In 2020 he started his own foundation “Mission 44”, which dealt with any kind of discrimination, giving everyone equal opportunities.
He speaks about the difference he has seen since the start of his initiative, however, he openly agrees that the difference he has seen until now isn’t much and he understands it is a slow process. But he is anyhow more motivated to bring the change and will keep pushing. “It goes forward with small steps,” the driver told the Italian newspaper, Corriere Della Serra.
“It takes time, but I will keep pushing.” he continued.
Lewis Hamilton is more pleased about the Change than his achievements
Hamilton openly accepted the pride this change is bringing to him is comparatively much more than his 103 wins or 7 world titles. He has seen the changes already happening on the paddock, stating his team as the first one. Lewis has seen the addition of more women in the engineering field. “Now I would like to see the same steps in other areas, such as with mechanics and engineers. To increase the presence of women in motorsport.” said the 7-time world champion.
Lewis also directly convicted Toto with a question that not many ask themselves, and that is what brings a feeling of pride in him. “If you don’t experience it yourself, you can’t fully understand it. Some time ago I said to Toto Wolff, ‘Imagine walking into the paddock and everyone is black and you’re the only white person’.” said Hamilton. Ultimately being the only one to bring the change or even start it, has to increase your pride.
