Lewis Hamilton is in the last year of his current contract with Mercedes, and they are yet to announce an extension. This led to speculation about his departure from the team. Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff and his star driver mentioned that the season is long and they would eventually sign a new contract. But due to the lack of action, there were several rumors about Hamilton moving to Ferrari.

Hamilton and Mercedes go way back. He made his Formula 1 debut with McLaren, and he joined Mercedes in 2013. It has been 11 years now. Recently, the world champion put the rumors to rest. He dismissed the idea of a possible move to another team. Hamilton expressed that he hoped to follow the path of Stirling Moss, 16 Grand Prix winner, and a renowned driver. The Briton wants to stay with Mercedes till the “end of his days”.

Lewis Hamilton stated, “I feel amazing about it. I continue to feel very much at home. It’s family. I see myself being with Mercedes till my last days, to be honest. If you look at the legends, Sir Stirling Moss was with Mercedes till the end of days. So, that’s been the dream for me to one day have that… well I have that, so I mean just continue on with that and continue to build with the brand.”

Hamilton added, “I’ve got some amazing allies within the team. I’ve got great relationships here. I think, for me personally, just as long as I can continue to help the team, as long as I can continue to help drive the team forwards and really contribute, then that’s why I want to stay.” The Briton feels that if there is a point when he is not able to contribute to the team, it would be time for a youngster to take his seat.

The seven-time world champion feels he is still young and in decent shape. He has more fuel left in him. Hamilton often shares images of his training. He prioritises staying fit and is determined to succeed. Time and again, Hamilton has mentioned that he is committed to Mercedes. And Toto Wolff is certain that they will sign a new deal soon. The team has impeccable records with Hamilton. They have seen an incredible amount of success.

However, despite all the success Hamilton and Mercedes have achieved together, they are not where they want to be at the moment. They hoped to be competitive and fight for the title this season, but things did not turn out as expected. Mercedes wants to change its car concept and provide Hamilton with a championship-winning car. But the question is when?
