In the high-speed world of Formula 1, designers craft every element of a driver’s gear to strike a balance between performance and safety. Among these components, the helmet holds a special weight. Helmets not only serve as a safety essential but also possess a distinct identity closely tied to the driver. These have a personal attachment for drivers, representing more than just a brand; they symbolize the driver’s journey, struggles, and victories.
The seven-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton, is renowned for his distinctive style and remarkable performances on the track. A significant fan attraction has consistently been his helmets and their symbolic significance. In a sport where helmet changes are common, Hamilton has expressed his desire not to auction off his helmets, making them a unique part of his identity in Formula 1.
Acknowledging his career, Hamilton stated that he takes immense pride in his helmets, considering them as significant as a sports jersey. He has also expressed his desire to collect and display all of his helmets alongside his cars in a museum to allow people to see the journey he has taken in his career.
The only thing I refuse to sign would be a helmet. I take a lot of pride in my helmets - that's my jersey. One day, I want to put them all in a museum with all my cars... so people can see the journey from where I started.Lewis Hamilton told GQ Sports.
Lewis Hamilton stated that Mercedes is happy with the ongoing battle with Ferrari
Despite boasting one of the strongest driver lineups on the grid, featuring Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, Mercedes remained in second place, significantly behind Red Bull. Red Bull’s victory in the Constructors’ Championship at the Japanese GP dashed Mercedes’ hopes of clinching the title this year. However, the battle for second place in the championship remains alive, with Mercedes and Ferrari still in competition.
Mercedes had an opportunity to achieve double podium finishes at the Singapore Grand Prix, but Carlos Sainz dashed their hopes. In Singapore, Hamilton secured third place, but George Russell did not finish the race. In Suzuka, Mercedes attempted to employ a similar tactic to what Carlos Sainz had used in Singapore but could not succeed as Sainz finished in sixth place, with Hamilton ahead and Russell behind him.
Just like them [Ferrari], we started off pretty poorly at the beginning of the season. Definitely didn't expect ourselves to be second in the constructors and to now be relatively close, particularly in the last couple of races, and be fighting in the constructors.Lewis Hamilton said.
Acknowledging Mercedes ongoing battle with Ferrari, Hamilton stated that the competition between Mercedes and Ferrari is exciting for his team. He also emphasized the mutual desire to win and the need for a collective team effort to succeed in this competitive rivalry.
