Lewis Hamilton, the Mercedes Formula 1 driver, has grudgingly admitted that the Red Bull team is on course to win every race during the ongoing F1 campaign. He feels that while Mercedes has made significant progress, it just won’t be possible for the Brackley-based team to come up with a car that would be able to challenge Red Bull this year.
Lewis Hamilton was in the mix among the front runners at the Canadian GP and even overtook Fernando Alonso on the first lap of the race. However, as the race settled down, the W14 just couldn’t hang on to second, and amongst all this, Max Verstappen disappeared into the distance yet again.
The 38-year-old feels Mercedes has got enough firepower to secure second in the Championship, but when it comes to Red Bull, they are just too far ahead in all aspects. While shedding light on the same, he told RaceFans, “You know how it is, and you know what you’re faced with. There’s nothing I can do about their amazing performance.”
“It’s likely that they will win every race, moving forwards, this year, unless the Astons and us put a lot more performance on the cars, or their car doesn’t finish. In truth, it doesn’t feel a huge difference to the beginning of the year. There are some elements of the car which do feel different, obviously, with the upgrade,” Hamilton added.
Lewis Hamilton is pleased with his Canadian GP outing

While Lewis Hamilton has made it known that Mercedes has a lot of work to do, he is pleased with his P3 finish at the Canadian GP. He believes that it was a hard-fought result and a testament to the efforts of everyone on the team. Keeping this in view, he said, “I’m happy to firstly be back in the mix.”
“I’m just hoping at some stage we can have it all a little bit more level so we can get back to some of the good races we had back in 2021. And to have all three of us in a super-tight battle would be sick.” Lewis Hamilton wants Mercedes to reach a level where the team could churn in performances as they had in the 2021 season.
Moreover, he has delved into the prospect of having a three-way battle between himself, Max Verstappen, and Fernando Alonso for the F1 World Championship. While it is not a possibility this year, who knows, this fascinating prospect might become a reality in the upcoming seasons of the pinnacle of motor racing.
