Lewis Hamilton’s career success in Formula One is nearly completely synonymous with that of Mercedes, as the Briton won six World Championships of his seven with the team. Hamilton has assisted the Brackley-based team in winning eight Constructors’ titles consecutively after replacing Michael Schumacher at the team following his retirement.

Throughout Hamilton’s stint with the team, he has worked under Team Principal Toto Wolff, billionaire CEO of the Mercedes F1 team. The Austrian team principal has exhibited strong leadership, guiding the team through tough periods such as Nico Rosberg and Hamilton’s bitter rivalry, or Hamilton’s catastrophic loss of the 2021 WDC.

Lewis Hamilton expressed his respect for Wolff as the 2023 season concluded, appreciating his competitiveness and drive. The seven-time champion lauded Wolff’s structural growth of the Mercedes F1 team, as his vision carried the team to heights never seen before.

Toto is a great leader and it is clear that I have known him for a very long time. We have seen his vision grow and the structure within the team also grow.

Lewis Hamilton recently expressed his unequivocal support for Toto Wolff and his wife Susie Wolff as they were briefly investigated by the FIA based on accusations of sensitive information being leaked between the two. The 38-year-old called out the FIA at the annual F1 Gala held to recognize achievements in the 2023 season.

Susie Wolff was recently investigated by the FIA on grounds of checking whether she had revealed any sensitive information to her husband Toto Wolff. Susie Wolff is currently head of the F1 Academy, the brand-new racing series to promote women to higher levels of motorsport, where she is exposed to confidential data from the FIA.

There was a lot of opposition against the investigation, mostly from the Mercedes camp. Lewis Hamilton in particular was very outspoken against these steps taken by the governing body of motorsport, supporting Susie Wolff’s claims that the accusations were intimidatory and misogynistic. In an Instagram comment, Hamilton quoted Michelle Obama to underscore his support for the Scottish former racing driver.

Like Mrs. Obama said, ‘when they go low, we go high.’ Supporting you all the way.

The conflict-of-interest investigation concluded early as the FIA claimed insufficient evidence. Even so, they are being faced with tremendous backlash as Susie Wolff is a respected figure in the field of F1, being the last woman to participate in an F1 practice session, and her husband is the Team Principal and CEO of 8x Constructors’ Champions Mercedes.
