Lewis Hamilton established himself as “best of the rest” in the 2023 season. With a third-place finish in the standings, the Briton ended 2-23 with multiple podiums as well as a pole position to his name, though he lacked a race win.
One of Hamilton’s highlights from the season is the pole position he managed to bag at the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Briton was astonished by the result, claiming when he drove the car while testing he did not expect it to manage to secure a pole position.
When I drove the car for the first time in February, I never thought it was possible to achieve a PoleLewis Hamilton said, as reported by soymotor.com
Hamilton could not convert his pole to a race win, however. The seven-time champion did not win a single race the whole year too, for the second year running. Hamilton will be hoping for the revamped W15 with a new concept to break that streak.
Lewis Hamilton claims the 2024 campaign will be better than the past two years
Lewis Hamilton has not won a single race since losing the 2021 Abu Dhabi GP which lost him a record eighth world title. The Mercedes driver finished a disappointing 6th behind his teammate George Russell in 2022, and behind both Red Bulls in 2023.
Mercedes has failed to win a championship of any kind since the Constructors’ Championship in 2021, but Hamilton believes this will change in 2024. The 103x race winner believes that Mercedes has taken a step forward that they had not in the past two years, which could finally change things for the Brackley-based team.
I do believe we have a North Star now, which I don’t think we’ve had for two years. But still getting there is not a straight line. And there were just certain things, decisions that have been made, that just left you blocked at the end of a road.Lewis Hamilton said, via formula1.com
Lewis Hamilton has declared that he has not lost the drive to fight for an eighth championship despite being 38 years old, extending his contract with Mercedes to help him accomplish the feat. The Briton is currently tied with Michael Schumacher for most championships won, at seven titles won.
