Mercedes F1 driver, Lewis Hamilton’s father, Anthony Hamilton used to be his manager.

Lewis Hamilton and Anthony Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton was a different kind of beast back in the day. As soon as he made his debut in F1, it was clear that he was a force to be reckoned with. During his rookie season back in 2007, the McLaren superstar even went on to win his first race after only participating in 5 F1 events before. He even went on to challenge his far more experienced teammate and went on to beat him in the championship standings.
Lewis Hamilton’s dad, Anthony Hamilton deserves a lot of credit for getting Lewis to where he is today. having worked multiple jobs, Hamilton’s dad went on to support him all throughout his junior career, until McLaren picked him up. during the early part of his career, Anthony Hamilton acted as Lewis’s manager. during the working relationship, the Brit went on to win the drivers championship back in 2008.
With Anthony Hamilton, being Lewis’s manager, he was with him for each and every F1 race. However, the Brit decided to end his working relationship with his father when he decided to sack him as his manager and client. This took place during the 2010 F1 season. Hamilton further went on to state that this was a decision made in order to improve their relationship as father and son.

Lewis Hamilton was forced to fire his father

In the On Purpose podcast, here is what Lewis Hamilton had to say about this uneasy situation. “My dad was my manager when we got to F1. He worked so hard,” the Mercedes driver said. “His work ethic was inspiring for me, to see what time he gets up in the morning. The little sleep he would have, endless days in the garage working towards the weekend, packing up the track, learning to be a better mechanic,” he continued.
“But it was difficult for him to show me love. Sometimes you just want a hug from your dad. You want to be embraced. Me and my dad bumped heads at one stage. I really just wanted him to be my dad. Let’s go and have fun, let’s laugh. We hadn’t had that for a long, long time,” he continued. “I decided to part ways with my dad to make decisions for myself. There was a period where we spoke less,” he concluded.
If Anthony Hamilton was still managing Lewis’s career in Formula 1, who knows what would have happened. It seems like Lewis made the right decision as he further went on to win six more fun World championships and has a master total of 103 wins till date. while he has broken all the barriers of success in the pinnacle of motorsport, it can be seen that his relationship with Anthony Hamilton has also improved quite a lot.
