In a recent revelation, Toto Wolff shared that Lewis Hamilton firmly rejected his proposal to play AC/DC in the Mercedes garage. The seven-time World Champion humorously stated the music would make him feel queasy. Wolff recounted this anecdote during his BBC Radio 4 appearance on “Desert Island Discs.”

In the BBC show where prominent individuals curate a playlist of songs that have left an indelible mark on their lives. Toto Wolff mentioned that, although he feels that his music taste is more refined, the drivers just do not want a room next to him at tracks. As most of them share a similar music taste which is nowhere near his. He further said that he loves to sing along to the lyrics as well which might add to their displeasure.

Wolff recalled a conversation from many years ago when he had suggested playing AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck” in the garage before taking the cars out. He noted that he asked Lewis Hamilton what he thought of the idea. He responded that it would make him feel nauseous. It seemed that the suggestion didn’t align with the driver’s musical preferences.

“I said to him ‘What would you think if we played AC/DC Thunderstruck by AC/DC in the garage before going out with the cars? In a way to have all of the mechanics listen to this and he said ‘It would make me puke!’ ” Wolff stated according to Autosport.

Lewis Hamilton’s strong affinity for R&B and Hip-hop is common knowledge, making the Austrian’s AC/DC suggestion a daring move. Their unique Team Principal-Driver relationship stands out distinctly from others on the grid. The collaborative achievements of Toto Wolff and Lewis Hamilton throughout their tenure at Mercedes are undeniably intriguing.

Despite the introduction of a heavily revised car in Monaco at the end of May, Mercedes’ performance has shown only marginal improvement. The Mercedes duo have five podium finishes shared between Hamilton and teammate George Russell over the initial 12 races.
