Lewis Hamilton‘s bombshell move to Ferrari shocked the sporting world. The Briton will race for the Reds from 2025, opening up a vacancy at Mercedes. Toto Wolff is actively looking for a driver to fill in the shoes of the seven-time world champion. Amidst the search, Hamilton revealed what qualities he would like to see in his Mercedes replacement.
Lewis Hamilton actively worked in the sport to increase awareness for equality and other impending issues. Hence, following the move to Ferrari, the Briton reckoned that the only thing he cared about was that the team acquired someone with integrity and values. Someone with compassion to work alongside the ‘great’ crew at Brackley was of utmost importance for the 39-year-old.
I think the only thing I really care about is that the team takes on someone with integrity and values that are aligned with the team and where the team is going.Lewis Hamilton said, as reported by silverarrows.net
Apart from this, the Briton praised the ‘great people’ in the Mercedes crew. Lewis Hamilton didn’t hesitate to point out how some drivers were more selfish than others. On the contrary, other talented drivers were not in the right environment in the sport. Finally, the 39-year-old asserted that he hoped for Mercedes to get a good driver next season.
There are so many great people in this team and, as drivers, there are some that are more selfish than others. There are some that are good drivers but perhaps not the best within team environments.Lewis Hamilton noted.
Lewis Hamilton claims Mercedes needs to work on making the W15 ‘more consistent’
The 2024 season showcased the early-season struggles for Mercedes during the ground-effect era. Lewis Hamilton previously claimed it as his worst start to an F1 season. The seven-time world champion asserted that he felt more optimistic about the car as Mercedes continues to fix its issues.
I definitely do feel more optimistic about this car, yeah.Lewis Hamilton said, as reported by planetf1.com.
Lewis Hamilton mentioned that the W15 showcased some ‘good feeling.’ However, the entire positivity disappeared soon as the Silver Arrows found underlying problems. Hence, the 39-year-old pointed out that there was performance, but Brackley needed to work on making the car more consistent and easier to drive.
Obviously, the first couple of races, there’s been small showings of the car feeling great and we have pace for a moment, and then it kind of disappears. So there’s definitely performance there, we just need to work on making this car more consistent and easier to drive.Lewis Hamilton mentioned.
Hence, Mercedes will introduce in-season upgrades over the course of the 2024 season. The Silver Arrows will be hoping to potentially fight for race wins by the latter half of the season. Certainly, Lewis Hamilton would like to end his decade-long journey with the Brackley-based team with his first win since 2021.
