Lewis Hamilton shares emotional message on the ‘massively disappointing’ Israel-Palestine conflict
Lewis Hamilton has given his take on the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine that has taken the lives of thousands.
The entire world had turned silent with shock when pictures of the mass genocide from Palestine and the photos of war victims in Israel made their way into social media. While it might just be another day in some part of the world when the sun comes up, it is always a tough night filled with terror in the war-torn countries of Israel and Palestine. It started when a Palestinian militant group called the Hamas attacked Israel and the nation retaliated with huge bombings in Gaza, causing the deaths of thousands of innocent citizens. And amidst it all, celebrities like Lewis Hamilton have refused to be a silent bystander.
Hamilton has always been very vocal about the important issues going on around the world. Despite being one of the highest-paid athletes with a net worth of $285 million, the Briton does not seem like the one who would ignore talking about the difficult topics only to rest on his riches. When the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement started, Lewis made sure his voice was heard on that matter. And he has once again commented on the atrocities on mankind that have been going on in Israel and Palestine.
Lewis Hamilton had previously addressed the alleged ‘genocide’ in Gaza in one of his Instagram posts. Now, right ahead of the Abu Dhabi GP, the Mercedes man used his platform to ask for ceasefire between Israel and Palestine.
I think it’s difficult to wake up each day knowing there are thousands of kids dying and there’s nothing you can do about it and the rest of the world just goes on as it is. It’s massively disappointing to see how countries and governments are handling it and just to think where we are in 2023. With everything through history, it doesn’t look like we’ve learned anything.Lewis Hamilton was quoted saying at an interview ahead of the Abu Dhabi GP.
Lewis Hamilton admits itis hard on him to go on with his racing life by ‘compartmentalizing’
The news of the thousands of war victims in Israel and Palestine have broken the hearts of many, including Lewis Hamilton. As a Formula 1 racer, he describe how he has had to carry on with his career in motorsports despite knowing how helpless he is as he can do nothing to stop the children from being killed in those countries. He said that he has been compartmentalizing to keep his mind away from the heart-wrenching news and focus on remaining positive in the dark times.
To be able to compartmentalize that and just go ahead with your job, I think, is difficult. It’s all over social, there’s not a day you don’t see something pop up on the news. You just try to remain positive through the darkest time.
In other news, Lewis Hamilton had a difficult weekend with the Mercedes W14 at the Las Vegas GP. The Briton could not find the pace that his rivals Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc seemed to have, and hence he could only get a P10 start to the Main Race in Qualifying. But then he impressed everyone by making 15 amazing overtakes during the course of the Las Vegas GP, this ending up in the P7 spot. This has gotten the Silver Arrows racer the credit for the most number of overtakes in a single race in this 2023 F1 season till now.
