During the post-season in 2023, an investigation was launched into the family of Toto Wolff and Susie Wolff, spouses who are both in managerial positions under the FIA. The investigation was introduced to explore accusations that Susie Wolff had leaked sensitive information to her husband Toto.

As head of the new championship F1 Academy, a series exclusively for women, Susie Wolff is exposed to sensitive information regularly. The FIA began a very controversial investigation into her, claiming a third party complained about her husband Toto having such sensitive information.

At the FIA Gala, an annual post-season event, Lewis Hamilton voiced his opinion on the matter. Hamilton said it was extremely wrong of the governing body of motorsport internationally to doubt the morals and integrity of Susie Wolff, a prominent figure in motorsport who is also the last woman to compete in an F1 practice session.

Disappointing to see the governing body of our sport has sought to question the integrity of one of the most incredible female leaders we’ve ever had in our sport in Susie Wolff without questioning and without any evidence. It’s unacceptable.

Lewis Hamilton had previously expressed his support for Susie Wolff by reposting her rebuttal to the investigation on his Instagram story. The seven-time Champion’s story on his account with over 35 million followers might have been impactful on the FIA’s decision to cease the investigation.

Susie Wolff is livid over insufficient communication from the FIA

The FIA’s investigation into Susie Wolff was questioned by many involved with the pinnacle of motorsport, the primary critic being Susie herself. Furious at the investigation, the head of F1 Academy harshly lashed out at the FIA, calling the investigation into her misogynistic and intimidatory, further claiming the accusations were unfounded.

Now on Thursday, the FIA ceased to investigate the matter further, with a brief statement which said there was insufficient evidence to investigate further. This left Susie Wolff livid at the governing body of motorsport, claiming the lengthy investigations demanded further elaboration from the organization.

When I saw the statement issued by the FIA yesterday evening, my first reaction was 'Is that it?' For two days, insinuations have been made about my integrity in public and throughout background briefings, but nobody from the FIA has spoken to me directly.

Susie Wolff did have support from many grounds as the investigation and accusations began. The Mercedes crew with her husband Toto Wolff and Lewis Hamilton primarily struck back at the FIA over the matter, while all of the other nine teams on the grid unified to make near-identical statements saying they did not incite the matter in the slightest.
