Lewis Hamilton snubs Silverstone and Monaco, names this race as his best one since joining Mercedes
Lewis Hamilton talked about the race that he believes he performed the best in, since joining Mercedes.
Lewis Hamilton’s career in Formula 1 is simply unmatched because of the innumerable awards that he has received. The 38-year-old was first seen at a Grand Prix in Australia, 2007, and he got his first race win in the same year, at the Canadian GP. Ever since then, he has been crowned the Champion at 102 more races, and he has garnered a total of 4,443.5 career points till now. But despite this massive number of races that he has been a part of, Lewis Hamilton clearly remembers his best ever race with Mercedes–and it is none other than the Brazil GP 2021.
Every true F1 fan knows that, for seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton, Brazil holds a special place in his heart. While he is originally from Britain, Lewis has always felt a special connection to the South American country as his racing inspiration, Ayrton Senna, hails from Brazil as well. On June 9, 2022, Lewis Hamilton was awarded with an honorary citizenship of Brazil. Thus, it goes without saying that the Briton is actually a Brazilian at heart. And Lewis recently confirmed this when he was asked about his best race ever since joining Mercedes.
The Brazil Grand Prix 2021 was held at the Interlagos Circuit in Sao Paulo, Brazil during the second weekend of November. Lewis Hamilton had scored the first position in the Qualifying for the Sprint Race, but was later disqualified due to a problem with his Drag Reduction System. Later, he was allowed to go for the Sprint at the steward’s discretion and got a P5 finish. But even then, he was given a 5-place grid penalty due to the replacement of his ICE (internal combustion engine) component.
Lewis Hamilton managed to win the Brazil GP 2021 despite multiple penalties
When Lewis Hamilton started the Brazil GP from the tenth position in the starting grid, noone expected him to get to the front of the grid by surpassing formidable opponents like Max Verstappen and his own teammate Valtteri Bottas. But Hamilton made the impossible into a possibility as he came at the top and waved the Brazilian flag when he was called on to take his place at the podium.
Speaking of waving the Brazilian flag, Lewis recently said on a podcast interview, “When I held the flag up on the podium, it was a signal to everyone within Brazil that I acknowledge you, I appreciate Senna and love Senna. Always have since I was a kid. I was hoping I would lift up the nation in someway, even though I wasn’t Brazilian. But now I am Brazilian!“
Coming to the present scenario, Lewis Hamilton has not won a single Grand Prix last year and even in the three races that have taken place till now in 2023, he has gotten only one podium finish. This year, the Brazilian GP will be held during the weekend from 3rd to 5th November. Now, it remains to be seen if Lewis manages to recap the happenings of 2021 by winning in Sao Paulo once again or if one of his opponents takes away the victory.
