This is where Max Verstappen sees Lewis Hamilton as one of the best, the Dutchman is well aware of how the Brit has so far in his career managed to have an upper hand over his teammates.

However, Max was recently asked to comment on Lewis indicating that the Dutchman’s success was down to Adrian Newey and Red Bull and while responding to it said, “There’s a lot of that [that] is down to the team, of course, as also how Lewis won his championships. That’s how it goes in Formula 1.

Max Verstappen has been the main guy at Red Bull since his arrival and over the years, has seen many drivers come and go. While the 24-year-old has cemented his seat on the team, no other driver has managed to do so.

While shedding light on having the upper hand over teammates Verstappen adds, “Your car is super-important, but I think when you’re an exceptional driver like of course, Lewis is as well, you make a difference over your teammate at the time, because in very crucial races as well.

For example, for me, I think one that stood out as well for him was Turkey when it was very slippery – just staying calm, not making mistakes.

“You end up winning a race like that, and that’s what, at the end of the day, good drivers do.

“They do make the difference compared to other fast drivers but not as good [ones]. So yeah, the car is very dominant in Formula 1, but of course, between teammates, only one can win, and that’s where you have to make the difference.”

Max Verstappen has stressed about having the edge over the teammates and this is exactly what he has done and is still doing against his current teammate Sergio Perez.

Max, after 15 rounds, has made his way to 310 points whereas the Mexican has only been able to amass 201 in the same machinery. This gives a good indication of why Verstappen believes the skill-set of the driver also holds significance, and not just the car.
